Meet Obioma Faison | Private Chef & Food Stylist
We had the good fortune of connecting with Obioma Faison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Obioma, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Thank you Christian! I’d like to share an affirmation that made me realize who I am and why I should always be on the path I’ve always wanted. It states:
If you don’t overcome fear & conquer trials in life you’re not living
Life is a journey full of crucibles, and each one you complete, you become stronger
The harder the crucible you experience, the stronger you become,
Every new crucible been harder than the last
The stronger you become through each trial, the more you affirm what you’re fighting for!
These words above are a reminder that no matter what may come my way either good or bad, it’s sure that I am on my way to greater feet, if only I don’t quit. Our best tomorrow starts with a better yesterday!
To conclude, you are who you are when you endure the crucibles on your path, which breeds a stronger you!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My purpose is to encourage Non-Nigerians to embrace the beauty of Nigerian cuisine through the reinvention of Nigerian staples. There’s taste bud treasure hidden within every Nigerian dish!
Through the grace of the lord, I am able to share my self-taught culinary skills. I’ve always had a passion for making people excited with food and that has been my edge. It hasn’t been easy as I didn’t initially set out to become a chef and start my own catering business, given my passion. But through the crucibles of life, I’ve affirmed this is my journey.
I’d want future business owners to know every business has its ups and downs. Many times it’s best to focus on the end goal of your vision rather than the outcome of your present results. As the saying goes “The staircase of success is built by steps of failure”. Without our clients, we would not be able to continue our services during Covid-19.
Our brand’s mission is to showcase the beauty and authenticity of reinvented Nigerian dishes. It takes time to build a valued and quality brand, and that’s who B.Y.O. Chef is. By providing clients the opportunity to personalize their menu, we strive to make every meal a memory their belly will never forget. A delicious meal satisfies your belly for day and your heart for a thousand years!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a food enthusiast, I love to explore cultural restaurants & sweet shops such as Simply Thai, Sweet Firefly, and Big Dash. I love these because they inspire me to step out of my cultural boundary and reinvent Nigerian staples without losing their authenticity. These restaurants & sweet shops are local and small businesses, if you ever find yourself craving Thai food, that perfect ice cream, or Mediterranean sweets, you should definitely check them out.
